HMC Debate Club & IAS & IFRS Club: Developing Well-Rounded Professionals
Alongside the Debate Club, HMC has established the HMC IAS & IFRS Club as a dedicated platform for year-round learning, workshops, seminars, discussions, and research focused on International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
The Club aims to build a strong technical foundation among HMC's students, interns, and professionals, particularly those preparing for professional qualifications and pursuing careers in accounting, audit, and financial reporting.
As part of this initiative, the Club conducted its Strategic Planning Session – Session 02, focusing on developing a structured roadmap for learning and mastering IAS and IFRS.
The session focused on two key areas.
Prioritizing IAS and IFRS Standards
Participants discussed how to identify and sequence the most important and foundational standards. Rather than approaching the standards randomly, the objective was to create a logical learning progression that allows participants to build their knowledge step by step.
Developing an Effective Study Strategy
The participants also worked on a structured study methodology covering learning techniques, relevant resources, practical application, and approaches for improving understanding and retention.
The session encouraged collaborative thinking and active participation, helping the team establish a more disciplined and outcome-oriented approach to technical learning.
The roadmap developed through this initiative will support HMC's broader objective of building professionals who can understand not only the requirements of IAS and IFRS but also their practical application in real-world financial reporting and audit engagements.
Two Clubs, One Learning Philosophy
Although the HMC Debate Club and HMC IAS & IFRS Club focus on different areas, they contribute to the same objective: developing well-rounded professionals.
The Debate Club strengthens the ability to think, question, analyze, communicate, and defend ideas.
The IAS & IFRS Club strengthens the ability to understand, apply, interpret, and communicate technical accounting requirements.
Together, these initiatives create a learning environment where professionals are encouraged to develop both professional judgment and technical competence.
At HMC, we believe that a strong professional is not defined by technical knowledge alone. The ability to think critically, communicate effectively, understand different perspectives, and continuously update one's knowledge is equally important.
