Income Tax Lawyers’ Reception 2025: Strengthening the Role of Tax Professionals in Revenue Mobilization and Economic Growth

Hossain Mumlook & Co., Chartered Accountants (HMC) was proud to serve as the Knowledge Partner of the landmark “Income Tax Lawyers’ Reception–2025: Role of Tax Professionals in Mobilizing Revenue and Driving Economic Growth”, held on 5 December 2025.

Organized by the Corporate Academy for Professional Excellence (CAPE), the program brought together policymakers, senior tax officials, leading professionals, and a large community of emerging tax practitioners to discuss the future of taxation and revenue mobilization in Bangladesh.

A Significant Gathering for the Tax Profession

The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, FCMA, Secretary, Internal Resources Division (IRD), Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), as the Chief Guest.

His presence and insights added considerable value to the program, highlighting the importance of tax professionals in strengthening the country's revenue system and supporting sustainable economic development.

The program witnessed an exceptional turnout, bringing together high-ranking NBR officials, distinguished professionals from across Bangladesh, invited guests, and more than 800 newly enrolled Income Tax Practitioners. The strong participation reflected the growing importance of professional capacity and collaboration within Bangladesh's tax ecosystem.

Looking Ahead: Revenue Mobilization in Bangladesh

The plenary session featured an insightful keynote address by Dr. Iqtiaruddin Md. Mamun, FCMA, Commissioner of Taxes, Large Taxpayer’s Unit (LTU), NBR, on “Revenue Mobilization in Bangladesh – The Future Trajectory.”

His discussion explored the evolving landscape of revenue generation in Bangladesh and the direction in which the country's tax system needs to move. The session provided participants with a forward-looking perspective on the opportunities and challenges associated with strengthening domestic revenue mobilization.

From Incremental Change to Structural Reform

The technical session featured Mr. Snehasish Barua, FCA, Founding Partner of Snehasish Mahmud & Co., Chartered Accountants, who delivered a keynote presentation titled “Optimizing Tax Revenue in Bangladesh: A Strategic Roadmap – Moving from Incremental Changes to Structural Reform.”

His presentation emphasized the need to look beyond incremental improvements and consider broader structural reforms to create a more effective, transparent, and sustainable tax environment in Bangladesh.
